CIEC Best Speaker Award
Marty Ronning, Assistant Director for Distance Education Technology and Services (DETS), received the CIEC Best Speaker Award for his session entitled "Meeting the Technological and Infrastructure Challenges of Emerging Trends in Online Education". The session was presented at the February 2013 CIEC conference held in Tempe Arizona. Held annually, the Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration (CIEC), sponsored by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), is dedicated to all disciplines of engineering education.
Mr. Ronning spoke about the physical infrastructure upgrades completed in the J.M. Patterson Building in support of the new Seigel Learning Center (SLC) and how these upgrades will position the Clark School to take advantage of new technologies in teaching as they become available. The upgrades included changes to the HVAC system, lighting system, classroom seating configuration and acoustics in order to better capture in-class presentations for online use. The SLC has recently added to the ever growing list of supported technologies with green screen capabilities in one of the studio classrooms.
Following the CIEC conference Mr. Ronning hosted an online virtual tour for CIEC member institutions in order to better describe the SLC facilities to staff members that were unable to attend the annual meeting. This online tour was so well received that another member school followed suit with a virtual tour this past December.
Mr. Ronning will be recognized at an awards ceremony scheduled for this February during the 2014 annual CIEC conference in Savannah, GA.
