Marty Ronning presents at CIEC 2105

Marty Ronning, Assistant Director for Distance Education Technology and Services (DETS), presented a session entitled "You want to teach what from where?!" at the Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration (CIEC) 40th anniversary conference held February 4-6, 2015 in Palm Springs, CA. The conference, sponsored by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), is dedicated to all disciplines of engineering education.

This well received session discussed how to proceed when a technology challenged professor’s course is changed at the last minute to include a distance education component. It chronicled the trials and tribulations of supporting an academic department through the process of choosing the best platform and working with distance faculty and students.

In addition to presenting, Marty spearheaded a new pilot project which captured each of the 8 sessions held by the Continuing Professional Development Division (CPD) at this year’s conference. CPD is an ASEE division that fosters the development, delivery, and improvement of continuing education in engineering.

Marty took responsibility for the entire capture process which included organizing the shipment of equipment, recording each session, and then arranging to have links to each session posted on the CPD website. Having these sessions available to the CPD membership will be of great value. It will help keep their members updated even when conference attendance is not economically possible. The division has 195 members of which only 35 were able to attend this year’s conference so the remaining 82% of the division will be able to participate after the fact. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Marty on his unanimous re-election to the Executive Board of the Continuing Professional Development Division (CPD). This leadership position will continue to bring increased visibility to the Clark School and the Seigel Learning Center as a premier facility for the development of educational content. Congratulations Marty!
